Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. - Luke 18:16 The New Revised Standard Version (Anglicized Edition) © Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America |
Special EventsThe following lists some of the events our Sunday School has participated in. Family Communion – At least 2 Sundays per year our children are invited to participate, at the parent’s discretion, in communion. The first is World Communion Sunday, held the first Sunday in October. A second Sunday in the spring is chosen and varies because of the church calendar.
Mission Projects – Projects that help the children have compassion for others is another way to teach our children to love God. Each January the kids have a Sunday School Breakfast and Outreach Sunday. The kids get to decide what organizations they will donate their gifts to. The kids typically choose organizations that help children, such as:
![]() Advent/Christmas Celebrations – Children join family in church for the Lessons and Caroles service, perform a Christmas Pageant, usually the third week in December, create ornaments for and decorate a Jesse Tree and may help their family light the Advent Wreath candle. Lent/Easter – Children distribute Palms or Palm Crosses on Palm Sunday to all worshippers. On Easter children attend church with their family. Mother’s Day/Father’s Day – Children give all women of the church a gift on Mother’s Day and all men receive a gift on Father’s Day. They also create a gift for these special days in Sunday School for their parents as well as host our congregation’s coffee hour. Pentecost Celebrations – Children decorate the sidewalk with chalk using symbols of the Church’s Birthday! Bible Presentation – Children in third grade are presented a Bible during worship in May or June. This reinforces how central the Bible is to our beliefs as Presbyterians which are firmly rooted in the teachings of the Bible. Baccalaureate Sunday – Graduates are recognized during service and receive a prayer book as a reminder to talk to God daily and know that they are being prayed for. |
